I'll use any excuse -- even an over-hyped, over-Americanized (did you know only one region of Mexico celebrates Cinco de Mayo?) holiday -- to pull out the party supplies.

Other than some chile infused Mexican candy, everything used for our Cinco de Mayo bash was handmade or something I had on hand. I used this tutorial for the mini pull pinatas (yes -- even the pinata contents were things I had on hand. What -doesn't everybody have an assortment of Dora tattoos and fake mustaches hanging around?), and this one

for the paper lanterns.

We had carne asada tacos that night -- and flan. It wouldn't be a Mexican pseudo-holiday celebration for us without flan.

Recent favorite: Fruit balloon garland (hmmm - Carmen Miranda party, perhaps?)

Working on: Teacher Appreciation gifts
