Go Green in 2008 ~ Hanky Panky

It would have been nice to say I had a tissue free cold

I purchased a set of a dozen hankies from Giftwagon not too long ago. Now that I am in the draining phase of my cold, I went through that dozen like nobody's business. But, it will be nice during regular health periods to have them on hand for more dainty nose blowing. Perhaps I will carry an extra clean one to offer to a verklempt friend. And they will be ironed, and scented (I'm thinking lemon verbena)...once I am on my feet again.

Keep an eye out for lovely hankies while thrifting. We now have a basket full, many with unique embroidery and in a full range of colors, obtained for a quarter each!

Glad your cold is better :)

My mom gave us her childhood hankies which have been fab. I feel slightly bad using vintage ones, but then again what's the point of having things if you don't use them? I also bought some muslin to make into multipurpose squares but haven't gotten around to it yet! I do wish bandanas were cheaper.

I love my real hankies! They are so multi-purpose too - I've always got one in my purse.

I have a few vintage ones that I love. My 3 year-old daughter has been sick and I gave her a hanky to use. She loves it. (And I think it's nicer to her poor little nose.)

i just saw some nice mens handkerchief's at 99Cents Only. The clerk commented that they are hard to find anymore. To which I replyed, "Maybe with people going green they will come back." He didn't think so, but look here at this post!

How I dearly dearly love my hankies!!! I have a couple dozen. Whenever I see them I pop them in a cart and off we go! I have even seen them during gift giving seasons at Target!

When the girls were little we made "prairie dolls" from them, now we keep extras just in case. I haven't been to a funeral yet where I haven't given one away!

Grab something hot to drink, and a book, use those hankies and get well soon!

Now that I'm more conscious of environmental issues, I'm using my hankies more regularly. Lace-trimmed hankies made out of one of my old well-loved cotton nightgowns (I posted it on my blog, can't remember the date) was a good recycling effort for me.

I adore vintage hankies. I actually gave one to a friend whose mother had passed away at her mom's funeral. I thought it was a nice gesture for a sad day for her and a gift that would keep on giving throughout the years. Freshly pressed and sprayed with a little lavender- it is truly a pleasure to hold in my hand!!
