Acorns

Some acorn sugar cookies dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with pecans to take to a party tonight

When you see pictures like this, do you wonder if I am being a minimalist - or - if these were the only two cookies that came out looking right?

hmmmmmm.....The secret lives of bloggers...

Used Martha's recipe this time. Sugar cookies are a tough one for me. I have tried probably 10 different recipes, and have never found "the one." It could be my fault, and too much mixing or working the dough too hard rolling it out.

How about you? What's your favorite sugar cookie recipe?

I use a Martha recipe that has lemon in it, and I use her royal icing even though it has raw egg in it. Sometimes I use the recipe in the Betty Crocker Cookies cookbook (that book rocks), and I cut out the center with another shape and fill it with crushed sour balls for a stained glass effect. If a sugar cookie isn't sweet enough, it's just yucky. These acorns remind me of the Milano cookies I made recently--super yummy (recipe posted on my blog in July). The acorns look adorable.

I use Nigella Lawson's butter cut-out biscuit recipe. They hold their shape really well.

I have the BEST sugar cookie recipe. It's from my kindergarten teacher and is now almost 40 years old. Visit my blog, as I will share it after Thanksgiving.

I don't really have a favorite sugar cookie recipe. Mark Bittman, who wrote my favorite cookbook, disappointed me as I find his cookies to turn out a bit like shingles. I'm sure I could thumb through our growing archive of Cooks' Illustrateds and find a good one, though.

Now, sour cream cookies are a different story -- I have a top secret family recipe for that.

BTW -- I NEVER wonder if you're only posting a picture of the good ones. Somehow I just know that ALL of yours turn out beautifully.

I've never had good luck with sugar cookies, I need to find a good recipe too I think. These are adorable, even if they don't end up tasting fantastic.

Acorn sugar cookies - no way. I could never get even two looking like that.

Oh, and like the Pheonix, I have risen from the ashed of mercy lane to a new spot on the web that you're very welcome to come and hang out at anytime. If you want.

Minimalist or secretly bad cookie maker. How funny. Those are cute cookies even if they are the only 2 perfect ones. What a great idea.

My mom and I and my sister have made the same sugar cookies every year of my life (this will be the 36th time I've helped. I STILL let my mom make the cookies. It is hard to roll out and keep it from getting tough. Do you use a pastry cloth on the rolling surface and on the rolling pin? My mom swears by it - only way she says.
